April Fools :)

2 04 2011

Yesterday, I was giving a violin lesson to one of my five-year-old students.  During the middle of “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star,” she stopped playing suddenly and said, “Ms. Callie, I have a present for you.”

Her mom said, “Shh, finish your song.  You can give her the present after your lesson.”

As her lesson ended and I walked them out to her car, Molly suddenly remembered the present again.  “Mommy, can I go get the present?”

Her mom sighed and said, “Sure.”

Molly ran to the car, opened the door, and fished around for something.  She returned with a pretty little jewelry box.  I opened it up, only to find an old, dirty dime inside.

I looked up at Molly’s mom, hoping for some explanation. She said, “Well, we were cleaning out the car today, and found this under the seat.  I said, ‘Why don’t we give it to Callie as an April Fool’s Day present?’  But Molly didn’t understand why it would be a joke…she said, ‘But it’s a real present!'”

And I guess it was a real present…to catch a glimpse of the world through the eyes of a five-year-old.  🙂
